For one, the tournament has been around since 1950, quite a long time. Currently, one happens every four years, although in the beginning they happened more frequently.

Predictions for 2014 FIFA World Cup

The thing to realize is that no one can accurately predict the winner of the World Cup in 2014. Having said that, there are some things that point to some teams and countries doing better than others.

List of countries and the number of spots they may have on the final list of teams.

  • Africa (CAF), Five Spots
  • Europe (UEFA), Thirteen Spots
  • North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), Three Spots
  • Oceania (OFC), Possibly one Spot
  • Asia (AFC), Four or Five Spots
  • South America (CONMEBOL), Four or Five Spots

Here are our predictions for the various continents:

  • Africa: Ethiopia, South Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and perhaps Libya
  • Europe: Belgium, Italy, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Russia, Slovakia, England, Spain, France, Denmark, Portugal and Turkey

  • Asia: South Korea, Iran, Japan, Australia, and Iraq
  • South America: Chile, Uruguay and Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador
